Stone Mountain

by Nolan
(Stone Mountain, GA, USA)

A co-worker first introduced me to the path around the base of the mountain. Before that I was walking a flat course near my home.

On Stone Mountain the pathway is 5 miles long. There are 2-3 long hills with a steady rise that will definitely challenge you. I have been power walking this course for four months and the benefits have been tremendous!

I overdid it once and pull my hamstring. That sidelined me for about two weeks. When I started my time was 1:17:00. I have steadily improved my time to 1:04:30 or approximately a 13 min mile. The distance is just right and I want to start increasing my walking distance for speed and endurance. I participated in a 3.2 mile walk for cancer and finished in 36:19, a very fast time.

Stone Mountain is a great place to power walk.

Hanging In

by Nolan
(Stone Mountain, GA, USA)

Pulled my hamstring back in August. Had to rest it, which frustrated me because I missed my walks. Also had some friends that I got together with fall off on their commitment.

But I'm happy to report resting and treating my leg has paid off. I'm back on schedule and based on my tracking of my power walks, I am pacing at 13:19 per mile. Summer has just ended but I plan to keep power walking through the winter months.

Any suggestions as to what type of gear I'm going to need? Feel free to share!
