Take one day at a time, one step at at time. Out of the mouths of babes

3 generations of runners!

3 generations of runners!

Wanted to share a little part of my journey.

Lisa my daughter is an avid runner. She does marathons and triathlons. Last year about this time she ask me to watch my grandson which was 6 run over the finish line of a fun run, 1 mile while she ran with my granddaughter who was 3. I was like 'what time do I need to be there?' She said 7:00 AM! 7 AM on Saturday morning? Are you kidding me?

So I went and stopped by Fast Food on the way. Pulled up in my handicap parking spot. Watched the crazy people walking around its cold, early Saturday morning and thought 'look what you have on! Teeny tiny little clothes'. I managed to get up the big hill to go watch my grandchild come over the finish line. As he ran over I begin to cry. He asked what was wrong and I said 'I'm just so proud of you'. He said 'Why Grammy?' I said what an accomplishment! He said it was just a mile!

I cried more and he said 'you can do it!' I said 'I can't do it!' I had a hard time walking up that hill! Still crying, he said 'you know Grammy, my teacher told me you can do anything you put your mind to. Really boo whooing now. With me still saying no, he said "you know what else my teacher says?' I said 'what?' He said 'you have to take one step at a time, one day at a time'. I said ok, crying and laughing at the same time. He said 'Grammy you have to pray about it, and Ill pray with you', and we did. He goes to a private Christian School. I came away that day hearing him say to me you can do it Grammy, take one day at a time one step at a time. My journey started that day! I went to the track at the local high school. Walking around the track would have been 1/4 mile. I tried, couldn't do it. I went 1/8 mile walked away with my head down thinking I can't do this! Waiting a few days I went back again, hearing my grandson say to me 'you can do it Grammy!'

I continued to go back day after day going a little further each day. I can now walk 3-5 miles day! I did my first run/walk with my inspiration - my grandson - 3 weeks ago! That was a fun run. Last week I did my first 5K! It was so hard, But I did it!

I have been back to the doctor and had blood work. I'm off high blood pressure pills, off high cholesterol meds, off diabetics meds. My doctor says my grandson saved my life. I was heading down a wrong path with my health. He has no idea what he has done for me. I still have my struggles, But I thank God for my health and putting my grandson there for me!
