Bonding with Kemp

by Grandma Patty
(Kalispell, MT)

I traveled from MT to WA to babysit my grandchildren so their parents could go on a much deserved week vacation in Hawaii.

Yesterday, my grandson Kemp invited me to go on a walk with him and naturally, me being the walker in the family, ran to get my shoes on!

We leashed their black Lab, Lilly and off we went. Now mind you, this little guy is 7 but probably doesn't weigh anymore than 50 lbs. We began our trek and it was absolutely enjoyable. Kemp never complained once. And we ended up hiking up a huge steep area.

Grandma did her share of huffing and panting and our walk ended up being at least a three mile adventure. He showed me trails and little discoveries that he and his dad had found on their Sunday walks.

What a healthy exercise to participate in with your grandchildren and oh my, the visiting is priceless. I'm anxiously awaiting 2:50 when the school bus arrives and if my luck is running, Kemp will invite his old grandma along for another trek.

Grand children are the best! They love you unconditionally, even if you don't walk as fast as them.

Proof is in the Pudding

I lost both of my parents to heart disease and I can tell you that they would have lived several more years if they would have walked. As a grandparent, I encourage my kids to walk. It is a perfect time to have those one on one visits with them and you really do discover something new to talk about each time. I have been a walker for about 30 years and it helps your mental, physical and emotional being every day.

Grandma Patty - thank you so much for your comments.

It is a delightful story and walking with the young 'uns always brings a special pleasure - not to mention helping to keep you younger :-)

May you enjoy many more days with them.
